QUANTITY, SAMPLE & DELIVERY

Plan the order around your product.

A starting brief for your quotation

Quantity
Share pieces per size and artwork. The feasible quantity is confirmed against the structure and finish.
Samples
Choose material, structural or printed sample review. Availability, fees, revisions and sample shipping need agreement.
Production
Scheduling follows the approved specification and commercial terms. Confirm the production window for the actual order.
Delivery
Confirm flat or assembled delivery, separate inserts and who assembles the boxes. Freight, import and final delivery scope are agreed separately.

Your written quotation defines the scope and exclusions for the actual project. Check delivery responsibilities ↗︎

THE STARTING COLLECTION

Choose how the box comes together.

Shortlist up to three illustrative directions to compare in your brief, or skip this step. A shortlist is a set of ideas, not your final box specification.

01 / FOLD AND ASSEMBLE

The fold-flat presentation

A rigid presentation that arrives flat for assembly near the point of packing.

Explore it for
Empty packaging delivered to a brand or fulfilment team.
Evaluate before deciding
Agree assembly ownership, connection method and corner alignment.

02 / FOLDING FLAP

The closure-led presentation

A folding rigid format with a proposed magnetic closing flap.

Explore it for
Projects where the opening and closing feel is part of the brief.
Evaluate before deciding
Review flap alignment and material separation; the closure is not a transport lock.

03 / LIFT-OFF LID

The fixed-box benchmark

A fixed rigid alternative used as the comparison baseline.

Explore it for
Projects where assembly effort or product support may outweigh storage volume.
Evaluate before deciding
Compare equal product capacity and agreed protection before making a volume claim.

One product description is enough to begin. Leave the structure open and we will review a suitable direction with you.

THE MATERIAL & FINISH BRIEF

Materials & print finishes

Explore the surface and print effects you want. We will check the combination against your chosen structure and sample.

Board, paper & surface

Review the wrapped structure and its folding connections together. The assembled dimensions and delivered flat format both belong in the specification.

Compare board and surface directions ↗︎

Print & finish

Discuss printed areas, colour references and the intended finish, such as foil or an embossed detail. Mark each finish on the artwork and confirm its compatibility with the selected paper before approval.

THE BOX & INSERT TOGETHER

Inserts & product fit

Confirm whether the insert travels flat, separately packed or installed. Review assembly order, box fit and product removal before comparing the complete packing volume.

Compare insert directions ↗︎
Discuss your box and insert ↗︎

Include in the discussion

  • Product dimensions, units and weight; include every item in a set.
  • Contact points, orientation and how the product is lifted out.
  • Proposed insert material, assembly and the checks a sample should support.
  • Whether the quote includes the insert, development and its packing.

Standalone insert orders need a scope review. A fitted display sample does not by itself establish transport performance.

CHECK THE SUPPLIER FOR YOUR PRODUCT

Can YDP support this packaging?

Start with assembly, closure, insert fit and the delivered flat or assembled format. Then see the relevant work, manufacturing route and order steps.

01 / RELEVANT WORK

Have we documented similar work?

No approved public project record is available for this packaging direction yet. Ask what comparable sample or project information can be shared for your brief.

Ask for relevant evidence ↗︎
02 / MAKING & CHECKING

Who makes it and how is it checked?

No approved production record specific to this packaging direction is published yet. Review the factory scope and ask which route applies to your order.

Review Factory & Quality ↗︎
BEFORE YOU COMMIT

What must be agreed before production?

Build these checkpoints into your project agreement. Inspection scope, timing, fees and remedies are confirmed for each order.

Factory responsibilities & quality checkpoints ↗︎

Will the order match the sample?

Make the approved reference identifiable.

Agree the sample version, materials, artwork, finish and product-fit checks. Record which differences remain between a development sample and production.

Record to agree

Versioned sample scope, approval record and production specification.

Discuss this for my order ↗︎
Can this support my launch date?

Separate production from transport.

Work back from the required receiving date. Confirm approval dependencies, dispatch assumptions, freight scope and destination responsibilities before committing.

Record to agree

Approval milestones, dispatch plan, shipping exclusions and receiving requirements.

Discuss this for my order ↗︎
What happens if a quality issue appears?

Agree a clear route to a reviewed resolution.

Keep the order reference, affected quantities, carton labels and photographs. Agree containment, investigation and the proposed disposition against the order specification.

Record to agree

Issue record, supporting evidence, agreed corrective action and reinspection where applicable.

DECISIONS BEFORE THE DIELINE

Plan the assembly.
Then the packing.

Use these questions to prepare the next conversation. Unknown details can remain open in your first brief.

Build a category brief ↗︎

Who assembles it?

Your team, a fulfilment partner or the recipient may have different tools, space and time. Define the assembly location before agreeing the construction.

What ships inside it?

A box shipped flat and empty has a different packing plan from a box shipped with the product inside. Compare the format at the same point in your supply chain.

What does the sample need to prove?

Check assembly sequence, corner alignment, closure and product support. Record assembly time using the intended team and an agreed method; no default time saving is assumed.

CHECK THE SAME DELIVERY STAGE

Follow the box
through the supply chain.

01 / DELIVERY

Flat and empty.

Record the supplied box, insert and protective packing dimensions. Confirm which components are shipped separately.

02 / ASSEMBLY

At the packing team.

Identify the location, tools and sequence. Trial the intended construction before committing to the packing schedule.

03 / DISPATCH

With your product.

Check product retention and the final shipping carton. Empty-box savings do not describe the entire outbound shipment.

THE FLAT-PACK DECISION

Count the whole job.
Not just the space.

Bring a fixed-box reference and a flat-pack alternative into the same comparison. No default saving or assembly speed is assumed.

Compare the same scope

Empty-box delivery and filled-product dispatch are different comparisons.

CHECK BEFORE CHOOSING

Record boxes, inserts, protective packing and cartons for each option at the same delivery stage.

Name the assembly owner

A flat delivery format needs an agreed packing operation.

CHECK BEFORE CHOOSING

Confirm location, labour, tools, instructions and capacity. Trial the actual construction with the intended team.

Measure total effort

Carton volume is only one input to the decision.

CHECK BEFORE CHOOSING

Compare quoted box and insert costs, packing labour, storage, transport and any extra components before choosing.

PHYSICAL REVIEW / AGREED SAMPLE VERSION

Trial the complete packing sequence.

  1. Assemble the actual sample using the intended team, tools and instructions. Record the steps and measured time.
  2. Fit the insert and product, then check closure, handling and final dispatch packing.
  3. If repeated collapse is required, agree and record a cycle test. Do not assume every folding construction is reusable.

A WORKING TOOL / VOLUME ONLY

Make the space
comparison tangible.

Editable demo inputs, not measured YDP samples. Compare outer-carton volume; this is not a freight quote or a cost-saving claim.

A / Reference structure
B / Alternative structure

Calculation includes a full carton for any remaining pieces. Weight, freight rates, duties, packing efficiency and assembly costs are excluded.

BEFORE WE START

The practical questions.

Is a collapsible rigid box the same as a folding carton?

No. They are different constructions. Review the board, connection points, opening experience and assembly requirements on the specified sample.

Does flat packing always lower the delivered cost?

No. Carton volume is one input. Weight, assembly labour, inserts, transit protection, freight terms and destination charges also need to be reviewed.

Can it be assembled more than once?

That depends on the construction, including any adhesive connection. State whether repeat collapse is required and validate it on the agreed sample.
